Mr Rajal Dalal, a well known businessman, commissioned HCPDPM to design his four bed room residence for his family of seven persons (Rajal, his wife and son, his parents and two aunts). The brief was to build a house that would maintain the essence of a joint family giving everyone their privacy. The house with an 'L' shaped plan sits on a plot measuring 1,715 sq m and has large verandahs and connecting corridors overlooking a well landscaped garden. The house also features an out-house on the other side of the square for recreational activities. The living area is a double height space lighted by natural diffused light from the skylights and the large glass windows and louvered panels. The house is a load bearing structure and built with exposed brick and exposed concrete. HCPDPM has appointed Jhaveri Associates as consultants.
